Visual Explorations, which began in 2013, is a seven day excursion for artists and non-artists to the heart of Tuscany, Italy led by Jerrod and his wife Jessie.

Our next trip to Tuscany will be July 17-24, 2020. Registration for the 2020 Visual Explorations trip will open in September 2019.

"Whether you are an artist or are looking for an enriching vacation we invite you to join us to experience this splendid region of Italy based at the medieval castle and organic agricultural estate of Spannocchia. Artists will work with me to learn drawing and painting concepts as well as have time to visually explore on their own. The beautiful and luscious spaces of the estate will serve as our outdoor studio for instruction on the grounds while Spannocchia’s Museo with its display of Etruscan artifacts will serve as our formal art studio.  Most of our time is spent getting to know life at the castle, but we will also visit other towns including Siena, and Florence.  The purpose of this trip is to engage with Italy and its culture - the people, flora, fauna, architecture, food, drink, art, and,of course, its rich history. Follow our visual explorations on Facebook and Instagram." - Jerrod

The program includes:

1. All art instruction.

2. Seven nights’ accommodations (six at Spannocchia and one in Florence).

3. Transportation from the Florence airport to Spannocchia on the day of arrival, transportation for all scheduled off-property excursions, and transportation to Florence on the last full day in Italy.

4. All meals at Spannocchia beginning with dinner Friday evening, through breakfast the following Thursday. Also included is a group dinner in nearby Siena, and breakfast on Friday, in Florence, our last day – 17 meals total.

5. Historical tour of the Spannocchia castle, and a Cinta Senese (pig) tour/class.

I had not been out of the country until I went to Italy with Jerrod and Jessie. It was such a great trip that I went three years in a row. For me it was life altering. Spannochia is wonderful, the food is great and the scenery is incredible. Jessie is a great hostess and Jerrod is a great art guide and teacher! This trip is incredible. I would go every year if I could!
